Slothtrop Music Wins 7 MAMA Awards!!!!

June 7th, 2011

Well ok we didn’t actually win any awards but our artists cleaned up at the 2011 Madison Area Music Awards last Saturday night. We’re pretty excited to see these hard working musicians garner some well deserved praise. We’ve been telling folks how awesome they are for months and it looks like lots of other folks agree!

First up Sexy Ester cleaned house by winning 4 MAMA’s including – Best Alternative Album for Hubba Bubba, Best Alternative Song for Love Bubble from their CD Hubba Bubba, and Alternative Band of The Year!!! As if that wasn’t enough Sexy Ester’s charismatic lead singer Lyndsay Evans also won Female Vocalist of the Year!

Sexy Ester also rocked the house with a live performance that you can check out right here and handout out some advance copies of their latest single Glitter Baby from their upcoming September release Sequins, Sin, and Appetite (which I’m sure will be winning lots of MAMa’s next year!). Look for a reboot of their website coming soon and the the maxi single for Glitter Baby should be available for digital download from your favorite online retailer June 14th.

Next up – Anna Vogelzang who won Most Unique Album for her Slothtrop release Paper Boats and best cover song for her banjo arrangement of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance from here Slothtrop maxi single Marry Me. You can see a live intimate performance of Bad Romance here and a video for “Toy Boats” is located right here. Look for Anna’s new release on her own Tall Girl records coming soon!

Last but by no means least – While he’s no longer on Slothtrop Records proper we still consider him a part of the family Mark Croft won a well deserved MAMA for Best Male Vocalist. Check him out here.

Finally I wasn’t able to attend the MAMA’s this year as I was at the Andy North and Friend’s charity event for the Carbone Cancer Center n the Wisconsin Dells. It’s a wonderful affair that I am happy to be involved with. This year they raised over $900,000 in one weekend and that brings it’s three year total to a little over 2 million dollars raised for cancer research! Thanks for an amazing weekend Andy and Sue.

PS- Anna Vogelzang wasn’t at the MAMA’s cause she was entertaining folks at the Andy North and Friends event!

SEXY ESTER AND THE PRETTY MAMA SISTERS ARE READY TO EXPLODE!

November 19th, 2010

Madison, WI November 19, 2010 – Slothtrop Music is pleased to announce
the debut national release from Madison Wisconsin’s very own Sexy Ester
& The Pretty Mama Sisters “Hubba Bubba.” While the CD is already
receiving radio airplay across the country, and their live performances
are sending shock-waves throughout the region.

“It’s easy to sign a band as talented as Sexy Ester,” says Slothtrop
Music owner Eric Hester, “with all the national and regional attention
they have been receiving we feel lucky to have them. The fact that there
new CD is awesome doesn’t hurt either!”

Laden with intense riffs and Holly-Go-Lightly euphemisms, “Hubba Bubba”
is what great music is all about – FUN! Starting off with the melt in
your mouth deliciousness of “Love Bubble” to the poignant promises of
“Tell Me You Do,” this EP is a wonderful trip back in time to when music
sounded fresh and the producer wasn’t in control. This music is in your
face, fabulous, and fully realized.

Fronted by honey voiced Lyndsay Evans, who controls the stage like the
divas of old ( I’m talking Aretha not X-Tina ) and ably backed by Adam
Edar on guitar, Dusty Hay on drums, Brad Schubert on bass, and Roscoe
Evans on keyboards, Sexy Ester is no flash in the pan. They’ve already
payed a lot of dues slugging it out in the smaller clubs and dives all
over the Midwest. With “Hubba Bubba” fast becoming a staple of college
radio the venues are getting bigger and bigger – with a major tour
planned for the summer of 2011 – Sexy Ester & The Pretty Mama Sisters
are certainly going to have folks talking for a while.

Anna Vogelzang finally Pops the Question!

February 9th, 2010

Madison, WI February 9, 2010- Slothtrop Music is proud to announce the February 9th national release of “Marry Me,” the first single off the upcoming full length release “Paper Boats” Midwest singer/songwriter Anna Vogelzang. Like a handmade gift from a quality craftsman, “Marry Me” is equal parts Lady Folk and Punk Rock Banjo and provides an exciting look into the caliber of her upcoming full release. Due to the unique nature of this artist and release Slothrop has selected it as it’s first ever Vinyl production!

Featuring 4 songs “Marry Me” leads off with it’s self titled track, a brilliant combination of folk and alternative spirit and which our heroine takes matters into her own hands by popping the proverbial question. Anna then takes on none other then space goddess Lady Gaga with a cowboy prairie rendition of the hit “Bad Romance” (check out the video on YouTube!). Just in time for Valentines day Anna finishes up her first national release with the heartbreaking “The Internet” and finds love down by the seaside in “Washed Ashore”.

Produced by the Artist herself and with the engineering skills of both Djim Reynolds and Guy Capecelatro III, this CD is something special, which is why Slothtrop chose to release not only as a CD and digital release but for the first time in their 10 year history as a vinyl release as well. The limited edition vinyl release will feature hand crafted additions and will be signed by Anna!

Already receiving radio airplay and media support “Marry Me” should introduce this award winning songwriter to an even larger national stage. For more information on, or to hear samples from “Marry Me,” visit theanna.com.

Dale Kidd 1954-2009

December 14th, 2009

I was shocked and very saddened to learn of the passing of Dale Kidd over the weekend due to complications from the H1N1 virus. Dale was one of the most generous people and honest songwriters I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing.

From the first moment I met him Dale was never anything but supportive and overwhelmingly positive about any project I have ever been involved in. While the rise and subsequent success of the Madison Songwriters Group has often been attributed to me in the press, I can assure you it was Dale quietly informing the legion of Wisconsin songwriters that I did in fact have some good ideas that started the ball rolling.

He always had a habit of showing up or calling the moment I was thinking of him and his laugh filled everyone who met him with mirth, I would give almost anything to hear it one more time. I shared both the best and worst on stage moments of my life with Dale beside me and he will be missed more then I can say.

NEW GORGEOUS HUSSIES CD A BIT “SURREAL”

October 13th, 2009

Madison, WI, October 13, 2009- Slothtrop Music is pleased to present the initial full length national release from Utah based Alternative Jam band The Gorgeous Hussies. “Sweet Surrealistic Queen” is a trip through a musical landscape of melting clocks and dancing eardrums. Already receiving airplay on 150+ radio stations across the US and Canada, this self produced 10 song collection is sure to make converts of even the most jaded music fans.

“All my life, my heart has yearned for a thing I cannot name,” says Andre Brenton. Perhaps this CD is what he was waiting for!

In a music-scene full of angst and over-production, The Gorgeous Hussies’ Sweet Surrealistic Queen is an atypical take on alternative jam rock is both refreshing and infectious as they weave off-the-wall riffs, catchy melodies and danceable beats. John Chatelain, Jordan Olsen, and Ryan Smith, who make up the trio, speak to their audience the best way they know how: solid, melodically focused rock tunes, inspired arrangements, down-to-earth lyrics and clever improvisation. Engineered by Smith and mixed by indie rock veteran Matt Winegar the CD is the Hussies’ most solid and polished work to date.

”We couldn’t be happier to finally release this record,” said Jordan Olsen, guitarist for The Gorgeous Hussies. “We started recording this new CD nearly two years ago and we’re pumped to have Slothtrop Music help get it out to the masses.

”Gorgeous Hussies” is possibly the most inaccurate way to describe the members of the Utah based band The Gorgeous Hussies; this group of (nearly all) married and burly-bearded musicians has been touring throughout the west for the past three-years. In May 2009 the band signed with Slothtrop Music through their new Sonicbids submission system. This system allows Slothtrop to find bands interested in being on their roster with a Sonicbids electronic press kit (EPK).

Please contact us for more information on Slothtrop Music, or to receive a physical copy of Sweet Surrealistic Queen for copy or review.
